History
In the year 2004 the government of Cameroon decided to take up the fight against poverty in the country.
Since then, many things have been undertaken to improve the health system and the medical
care of the people in Cameroon by, for example, building of hospitals and setting up of medical faculties.
Nevertheless, one of the main problems has remained, namely the low income of many Cameroonians,
which means that many people cannot afford medication and appropriate medical care. It is not
only medical drugs that have to be paid cash down by the patients, but any form of medical
service as well. At the same time, however, the people of the middle class of Cameroon are
often only insufficiently aware of the problems associated to health and health care.
In 2006 Patrick Sonkwa decided to do something about this situation and to set
up a private health insurance system in Cameroon in order to improve medical care
provided to the poor and to the middle class people and to improve the attitude
of the inhabitants towards their own health. So only one year later and thanks to
the assistance offered by parents and friends, the MEDI-AID health insurance was founded.
An insurance without frontiers, providing support to people in need.
